When a Greek-speaking parent needs more help at home, your family may be unsure where to begin. AGAPE helps turn that uncertainty into understandable next steps. Through the Hellenic Care Initiative, we offer free guidance in Greek and English across New York City, Long Island, and Westchester, supporting your family from the first conversation as you explore and arrange appropriate support.
We begin by listening to your parent
We help your family discuss what feels manageable, what has become tiring, and what kind of help your parent would welcome, in the language they prefer. Some people want help with one activity while keeping the rest of their routine independent. Others worry that accepting assistance means losing control. We make room for those concerns and keep your parent’s wishes central to the guidance.
We help make sense of the support your family needs
Your family does not need to arrive with the right terminology or a finished plan. AGAPE helps organize everyday observations, such as difficulty preparing meals, getting dressed, or managing hours when relatives are unavailable. Together, we build a clearer picture of the support being explored and the people already involved.
When a clinical assessment or care-team input is part of the process, we help clarify that step and, with your permission, assist with communicating the relevant information. Our role is to guide your family through the process and help the different parts fit together.
We help language and cultural preferences shape the options
Greek-speaking support can mean conversation in Greek, help communicating with an office, or both. We work with your parent and family to understand those preferences, along with familiar meals, daily rhythms, privacy, and religious observances when relevant. We help communicate the individual’s choices as we explore suitable providers and support arrangements.
We help gather and explain provider information
AGAPE helps bring together the location, desired schedule, main support needs, language preferences, and existing provider or plan details. With your permission, we help communicate with providers and gather answers about available services, Greek-speaking staff, supervision, absence coverage, and how changes or concerns are handled.
We explain the differences between home care agency types and help review relevant provider information, including service areas and available inspection information from New York State. We then help clarify the services and staffing available for your family’s circumstances, so you can compare options with a clearer understanding. [1–2]
We guide the enrollment and payment steps
AGAPE helps you understand what assessment, referral, application, or authorization may be needed, how the steps connect, and what information or documents are required. We help organize the process, clarify responsibilities, and follow up on unanswered questions with your permission.
Payment may involve private funds, insurance, or a public program when its financial and service criteria are met. We help explain those pathways and gather the relevant case-specific information, including Medicaid-related next steps. Eligibility and coverage depend on the applicable requirements; our guidance helps your family understand the process and what has been confirmed. [3]
We remain a point of contact as needs change
We help your family keep track of questions, information received, and practical follow-up while keeping your parent involved in decisions. Guidance can include clarifying what happens next, helping communicate concerns, and reviewing what a change in needs may mean for the arrangement.
As circumstances change, AGAPE remains available to help your family understand the options and communicate with the people involved. Your parent’s experience, comfort, and preferences stay part of the conversation.
Contact AGAPE with whatever your family is facing now. You do not need to research the process first or work out the next step on your own. We will guide you through it in Greek or English.
